Calypso (Odyssey)
Duration: about 25 minutes
(This was performed as part 2 of a double bill with Anticlea.)
Homer is at his intimate best in the half-hour drama of Calypso, in which the reluctant nymph obeys a divine command to release Odysseus from her remote island. Her tenderness and her sadness are enhanced by lines from Ovid and Propertius which form the prelude and epilogue. A perfect curtain raiser or first half of a double-bill (see Circe, Anticlea).
