Golden Galaxy (Romantic monologues)
The Golden Galaxy offers a group of famous monologues by Tennyson together with similar passages from Byron, Browning, and Coleridge. The dramatic impact of The Lady of Shalott and Maud, alongside My Last Duchess and The Ancient Mariner, is enhanced by the illustrated slides and incidental music by Schumann (listed in the programme). The opening extract was included specifically to establish the claims of Tennyson’s almost unknown Lover’s Tale (for more about which, see Further reading below).
